Frequently asked questions

Everything parents ask about Lulu: languages, safety, the beta programme and more. Can’t find your answer? WhatsApp us.

About Lulu

Lulu is a palm-sized AI chatbot toy for children aged 4–10. It chats by voice in 华语, English and Bahasa Malaysia, tells stories, answers questions and encourages speaking confidence.

Lulu is designed for children aged 4–10. In the parent app you choose an age band, and Lulu adjusts topics, vocabulary and story length.

Yes. Lulu uses home Wi-Fi to understand speech and generate answers. Without a connection, Lulu can’t chat and will let your child know it needs to reconnect.

No. Lulu is screen-free for your child. Only you need a smartphone for the parent app.

No. Lulu is a practice partner for conversation and curiosity. It supports school and family time. It does not replace them.

Languages & learning

Mandarin (华语), English and Bahasa Malaysia at launch, with Malaysian-friendly vocabulary. Cantonese and Hokkien stories are on the roadmap.

Absolutely. Children can switch between languages in the same sentence and Lulu will follow, replying in the language your child leans towards or the one you choose in the app.

Lulu introduces pinyin and tone play gently through games and songs. Pronunciation prompts are an early beta feature, and we’re improving them with parent feedback.

Lulu is not a syllabus tutor. It builds conversation, vocabulary and confidence that support learning at school, whether your child is in a national, national-type or private school.

Safety & privacy

No. Lulu has no camera. It also has a physical switch to mute the microphone.

Lulu listens only after its wake word or a button press. Voice recordings are not stored by default, and you can opt in to keep them for review and delete them any time.

A parent’s contact details, a child nickname, age band and language preferences, and short chat summaries for parents. We don’t collect camera images, location, contacts or advertising identifiers. See our Privacy Policy.

We design Lulu around the principles of Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010: notice, consent, purpose limitation, security, retention and access. As a beta product, details may be refined, and we’ll always tell you what changes.

Lulu responds gently, keeps things calm and encourages your child to talk to a trusted adult. If you’ve enabled alerts in the parent app, you’ll be notified. Lulu is not a substitute for supervision or professional support.
